The pick of the prices at Newmarket on Wednesday….

In ATC today….

…. I bring you my best pick at Newmarket on Wednesday….

I’m on ZOULU CHIEF in the 1.50 – up at 14s….

That’s the summary….

…. the Weatherbys Global Stallions App – Newmarket – 1.50....

It’s still very early days in the 2026 turf flat season….

…. and tomorrow’s Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap at Newmarket (1.50) is a race it’d be perfectly reasonable to leave alone….

But it doesn’t always pay to be reasonable and….

…. with 14-runners set to go to post and ZOULU CHIEF easy to back at 14s….

…. I’m lacing up my betting boots and wading in….

As a juvenile Heather Main’s charge had Starlust back in second in a valuable Nursery Handicap at York….

A lot of water’s flowed under the bridge since then….

…. Starlust went on to win a G1….

…. Zoulu Chief went backwards – having a nightmare 3yo season, dropping into handicaps at C3 & C4 level, and slipping down the scale to marks in the low 80s….

Then – last year – they had his wind done….

…. then they had him gelded….

…. and for my money that last procedure has had a positive effect….

Form figures since read: 2321/3

…. and a return to the 6f trip – after several goes at 5f and 7f – has played its part too….

I’m of the opinion that Zoulu Chief isn’t fully exposed at 6f on his current mark of 90….

…. and he’s run a couple of good races at this track….

…. first over 6f in a big auction race as a juvenile – not helping himself when taking a bit of a hold early doors….

…. and then over 7f in September – perhaps not quite getting home over the longer trip….

He’s not been seen since January, and fitness must be taken on trust – as is the case with quite a few of them….

…. but this is a horse very much on his way back….

…. and over 6f, on this track, off a mark that might well underestimate him – I think he’s a nice price to take a punt at….
